1. Acceptance
By using Anaru (the "App"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. What the App does
Anaru is an educational tool for learning Japanese. It plays short excerpts of video that you provide or point the App at, overlays them with furigana, romaji and translations, lets you tap a word to look it up, and schedules spaced-repetition reviews of the words you save.
3. License to use the App
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your personal, non-commercial educational use. You agree not to reverse-engineer the App, circumvent technical restrictions, or use the App for any unlawful purpose.
4. Third-party content and educational excerpts
The App presents short excerpts from third-party media (including but not limited to anime series) for educational and language-learning purposes. This use is intended to qualify as fair use / fair dealing under applicable copyright law (17 U.S.C. § 107 in the United States; comparable provisions elsewhere), based on:
- Transformative educational purpose — excerpts are annotated with furigana, romaji, word-level tokenization and translations for language instruction;
- Short length — each excerpt is a brief moment of dialogue, a fraction of the original work;
- Non-commercial context — the App is free and shows no advertising;
- No market substitution — excerpts do not replace the original works, which remain available through their official channels.
All rights in the underlying third-party content remain with the respective rights-holders. If you are a rights-holder and believe specific content should be removed, contact us at mirakelor@sonder.eu.org with the series, episode and time range, and we will respond promptly.
5. Content you bring
Media you import into the App, and content packs you load or distribute, are yours. You are solely responsible for having the rights to use and share them. We do not host, store or redistribute your media.
6. User data
Your vocabulary, preferences and progress stay on your device. We do not collect, sync or sell personal data. See the Privacy Policy.
7. Intellectual property of Anaru
The Anaru name, logo, app design, codebase and original artwork are owned by us and protected by copyright and trademark law.
8. Disclaimer
The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free.
